Signs of Spring Motif Sampler circa 1845 |
|
From Cross Stitch
Antiques, a reproduction of a mid-19th century
sampler that was worked in wool on coarse
linen. Though undated, the style of stitch work
would indicate this piece dates to circa 1845
or slightly later. Worked by an anonymous hand,
this sampler is completely charming with motifs
of spring including a squirrel, may basket,
tulips, florals and several bands in a unique
delightful pattern. Shown stitched on 28ct
Vintage Meadow Rue by Lakeside Linens using Au
Ver A Soie silks or DMC floss with a stitch
count of 121 x 148. Also includes the
designer’s Antique Sampler Trunk Show and
Lecture.

Suffer Little Children |
|
From Cross Stitch Antiques, the
well known and loved scripture verse, “Suffer
little children to come unto me and forbid them
not for of such is the kingdom of heaven” was
stitched by Annie Jones on her sampler and left
unfinished in a year unknown. Four alphabets
including the lovely scrolled center alphabets
adorn this charming old sampler as does the
sixteen still vibrant colors. Obtained from an
antique dealer who bought it at an antiques
fair near the Midlands in England, other than
the stitcher’s name, Annie Jones, there was no
provenance or history on the sampler.
Reproduction shown stitched on 32ct Vintage
Sand Dune by Lakeside Linens using DMC floss
and has a stitch count of 176 w x 176 h.

|
From Cross Stitch Antiques, this
beautiful reproduction sampler has a large
Algerian Eye upper border in various shades of
reds, golds and greens and features
symmetrically over sized red pots as the
highlight. Young Sylvia misspelled her own
first name and used an upside down letter
adding to the charm of this antique sampler.
Obtained from an antique
dealer who bought it at an auction near
Cornwall, England, other than the stitcher’s
name, Sylvia Trigg and the date, February 4th,
1841, there was no provenance or history on the
sampler. Shown stitched on 28ct Vintage Sand
Dune by Lakeside LInens using DMC floss with a
stith count of 195 w x 202 h.

reproduction sampler displays a famous hymn by
Isaac Watts, English Christian theologian. Shown
stitched on 32ct Vintage Lentil by Lakeside Linens
using DMC floss and working up to 7.43 x 18.86".
Verse reads: "Whenever I take my walks abroad
How many poor I see What Can I render to my God
For all his gifts to me"
