Uses Needlepoint Silk (or DMC floss) on a White 46ct Bergen linen with a stitch count of 248 high x 531 wide

From Queenstown Samplers, stitched on 40ct Vintage Light Examplar from Lakeside Linens using Needlepoint Silks with a stitch count of 98 high x 275 wide. Stitches used are: Back or Double Running, Buttonhole Wheel Eyelet, Chain, Cross, Eyelet, and Satin. This small, charming sampler was most likely made in Italy with the Chris-cross beginning and ending the alphabet rows. A young lady appears in her Sunday dress and hat. IHS is ancient Greek for Jesus and the crown represents God the Almighty. The initials SC might represent the teacher or a parent. There are flowers, dogs, birds, dragonflies and a handsome rooster! All this surrounded by a humble checkered border.

Ann Jordan c.1841
From Queenstown Samplers, Ann Jordan was from Baltimore, Maryland. This sampler is characterized as a Baltimore architectural “eyeglass gate” sampler - there are many documented samplers with this gate and brickwork dating from 1810 to 1841. Ann’s sister Elizabeth worked a comparable sampler with a brick house and trees similar to other known samplers in this group; ann’s gazebo is new to the group. Shown stiched on 32ct Examplar from Lakeside Linens using DMC floss. Stitch count is 274 tall by 290 wide; Stitches utilized are Cross over two linen threads, Couched Straight, and Rice.

From Queenstown Samplers, stitched on 40ct Chantilly Crème from Lakeside Linens using Needlepoint Silks with a stitch count of 227 high x 757 wide. Embroidered in Europe, most likely in a Catholic convent school in Italy, the church motif is found on numerous Italian samplers. Red samplers are joyful. Add blue and it is perfection! A Tiger, dogs, birds, and a smaller cat reside on the sampler. The Chris-cross begins each alphabet row. The Arma Christi, or Instruments of the Passion are portrayed including Veronica’s Veil. A charming checkered cartouche surrounds the maker’s initials and date.

German Saxon 1737
From Queenstown Samplers, this lovely 1737-39 German band sampler contains characteristic patterns from the Saxon area. The samplers from this time period are long and narrow and are usually divided into sections: patterns, alphabets and a personal area displaying people, animals, and plant motifs. The translated Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 12:1, “Remember thy Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil nights come and the years draw near when you will say, "I have no delight in them". The caption for the supper scene translates to: “Here is Jesus food and drink”. Shown on 36ctBisque from Lakeside Linens using Needlepoint Silks with an approx.design area of 415h x 201w.
