From Queenstown Samplers, At the age of 18, Phebe Nichols was a little older than most sampler makers, born in 1806 into the founding families of the Society of Friends (Quakers), of Goose Creek, Loudoun County, Virginia. Phebe created a three-sided arcaded vine border with chestnut red and buttery yellow carnations surrounding a large brick house with end chimneys and paired birds atop each. Phebe memorializes her father: Samuel Nichols departed this life 27th of the 5 mo 1824. She inscribes Mary Nichols, her mother and herself with: Phebe Nichols 2n of 12th mo 1824, when she most likely finished her sampler. Shown stitched here on 32ct Vintage Pecan Butter using Needlepoint Silk (DMC conversion provided) with a stitch count of 300 x 288
