Don't quite understand that, but ... since it was nearly 8pm and since he'd held off dinner so we could eat together, it just seemed 'best' if I sat down with him, ate and watched tv and chatted before bedtime! In case you'd wondered why the shop did not answer your calls or emails or orders yesterday, apparently Fenton had quite the little storm that blew through and the shop did not have power at all on Monday or Monday night. I called the shop early this morning and got the answering machine .... YIPPEE .... so .. it's the 10th .. I'm here at home UNTIL I get through my bags and file box of papers and make sure I've told you EVERYTHING .... the shop has power (so the girls had better be there!!) ...and the rain is stopping and the sun is coming out. Dave will be outside most of the day today cutting up trees that toppled over (luckily he got the HUGE Maple cut up and off the driveway so I could actually get IN when I got home last night. There are trees all over the place; fallen wires all over the place; even a few power poles snapped off here and there ... they're saying power may not be fully restored around here until sometime Wednesday evening! (we have power here at the house thank goodness!) Before I get involved in your report .. I BEG YOU TO HELP US SHOPS .. THE DESIGNERS .. THE NEEDLEART INDUSTRY! AND .. I NEED YOU TO DO THIS NOW !! There are two bills being reviewed in the House and Senate as you read this. The bill numbers are H.R. 5889 and Senate Bill 2913. The organizations officially opposed to this legislation are the Craft & Hobby Assn., The National NeedleArts Assn., the Society of Decorative Painters, and a wide range of groups representing artists, designers, photographers, illustrators, and cartoonists. OK .. here we go. (hopefully you've already sent off your email/fax or made your call before you read this) Theresa and I did the Market floor yesterday from 10am until quarter to three. I "had" been finished with "my" shopping on Sunday, but ... while wandering around unsupervised while Theresa was off doing her thing ... I managed to buy more!!! I will now be carrying the entire line of overdyed floss from THREADWORX (the company who took over after NEEDLE NECESSITIES went out of business). I'll have ALL of their lovely floss in 5-YARD skeins! If you are looking for a Needle Necessities color that no longer exists, we can help you find what the substitue from ThreadWorx would be and get that for you! Now you can finally stitch OR finish that project!!!
I've also found some lovely designs from an Australian designer ANNETTE ERICSSON ... at right is "Cups Blue". And .. I'd told you of designs coming from Wales ... well, I have more info for you on those now. They are from the artwork of Walter Crane -
probably one of the HARDANGER enthusiasts ... these are for you: "Award Winning Designs In Hardanger Embroidery 2008" featuring 11 incredible designs! CINDY VALENTINE's "Summer Sunrise" and "Summer Twilight" are larger pieces, but wow - are they super! And Donna from SATIN STITCHES introduced "White Rose Runner", "Picture Perfect", "Coastal Runner" and "Pocket Garden"!
From COUNTRY STITCHES you'll find "Simply Angelic", "Pumpkin Patch" and "Woodland Friend". Each design is stitched and finished into the SHAPE of the named design for unique display! How cute is that?!! You'll also be seeing a lovely little series of "Wee Samplers" from SCHOOLHOUSE FOR THE NEEDLE. Oh yeah .. I'd told you I'd check out how many CD's those cool Leather CD Cases that you can insert your stitched needlework into will hold ..... 26!!!! Wow ... 26 CD's! These cases were one of the newest items being introduced at the Market for their "Product Preview" display outside the show floor! I also have Leather Metallic Gold & Silver Christmas Ornament Holders coming from this same company. Simply insert your needlework into the 3" opening and you have the most lovely ornament holder with hanger for your tree or gift giving! I also told you about DUTCH TREAT having a "reading tabletopper" coming .. well, now I've got a picture of it for you here. Claudia also has several new Perforated Paper "word motto" designs that will be released at the same time. And the runner she was working on? She basically finished it .. man, oh man, would this ever be perfect on a piano!!! And, one of the designs coming from CHARLAND DESIGNS is a Needle-Felting design ... a pumpkin shaker pin-cushion that is mounted into one of the SUDBERRY SHAKER OVAL BOXES. This one will be a breeze for anyone who felts OR who wants to 'try' needle felting and will make a wonderful and useful addition to your stitching accessories, or gift to a stitcher or sewer.
FERN RIDGE COLLECTIONS showed a few new (to me) items that I'd apparently previously missed and found I must have!! "Under The Willow Needlecase" ... "Tuscan Tree Fob" ...."Williamsburg Bird". I love their designs because the finishing instructions are included, easy to follow, fun and QUICK to do & can be used for a variety of other designs/ornaments you may choose! I've used these styles for beginner finishing classes and everyone enjoyed them!! Their "Happy Holly-days" is shown here. MILADY'S NEEDLE was showing and I had to have everything new she had! INCLUDING her Limited Edition Market Exclusive Kit "Cottage Charm Stitcher's Pocket" (I know, I know, lousy picture but cameras are not allowed on the show floor and I took this from a brochure picture!). What you cannot see is that the pouch is made from an Antique Alphabet fabric pattern and Gloria bought the entire lot of it, so you will not be able to get this fabric elsewhere! Also released is a new ruler "Peacocks Rule", a lovely sampler entitled "Regal Sampler" (and it is!), and "Le Jardin", a floral. What I was most excited about was her leaflet "Quaker Pin Cushions" ... her husband has crafted the most wonderful collection of elegantly finished Wooden Pin Cushion Stands in Cherry, Walnut, Honey Locust, Birch & Sugar Maple woods. Not only are these great for her designs, I can show you how to make the funnest Needle Felted pin cushions using these as well!! Barb at STITCH A GIFT will be releasing some darling new Christmas banners when the designs are released by LIZZIE KATE around about June 25th.
We are taking orders now so let me know if you would like to order any of these banners. SAG will have color and design coordinated banners for all of LK's Double Flips as they are released. In August, GINGHER will have another wonderful Limited Edition ceramic handled Scissor for you ... the "ROBERTA" Designer Series is in blues!! Those of you who have bemoaned the discontinuance of the My Favorite DoLolly from Mardina ... rejoice! I have the most lovely "tail catcher" you've ever seen on it's way to us now! Like The DoLolly it has a needle threader on one end of an elegantly fashioned pewter tube (to run under the stitches you’re going to anchor the floss end) and a little hook on the other tube (so you can snag the floss and pull it through the threader). Of course, we have the Star De-Tailer in stock and it has pretty much the same function, but this new one will be a must for any stitcher who wants an Elegant Tool that will save you time. We also found two sizes of absolutely beautifully Engraved Pewter Stitcher's Magnets for your needlework and needles! Sharon from CRESCENT COLOURS not only released new colors in her cottons & silk line, she also has the coolest little pattern pack entitled "Be-Witching Hour" that will come WITH the floss and in plenty of time for your Halloween stitching! It's stitched on R&R REPRODUCTION's 30ct Glen Ellyn Blend linen and embellished with star HANDY CADDY has finally released their organizers in TURQUOISE! It's available in the Deluxe size with 8 pockets, as well as in the regular sized caddy with it's 6 pockets (shown at left - my favorite!) and in their Clear View Tote Bag! CHERRYWOOD DESIGN STUDIOS released two new designs too ... "We Salute" and "A Bee Flower Garden" - this one's bright & fresh colors will cheer the gloomiest of days and a matching needlecase & ' over 1' scissor fob make great companions! And of course, I just HAD to order EVERYTHING new in the MILL HILL line at Market!! The 2008 Christmas Button & Bead kits ... the Autumn Harvest Ornament/Pin kits ... and the Winter Greetings kits! MY BIG TOE DESIGNS was not at Market, but at the end of this week, we'll have the following from Debbie:
You'll be seeing all of our new Market items POSTED to my WHAT'S NEW page if I have pictures and even though they may not be here yet. I will show "ADVANCE ORDER" with each item so you'll know if it's actually in the shop yet or not (when it does arrive, the "advance order" will be removed from the item description). That way, you can guarantee yourself that you will be one of the first to have that item as soon as it arrives in the shop ... and if I see where I have to place another reorder immediately, in some cases before the item arrives, I'll be right on top of that for you to help reduce your delay. "WHEN" are these items coming? Good question ... all I know is that they ARE ordered and WILL BE coming as soon as the designer/distributor/manufacturer ships them to us! Hoffman Distributing's team has just returned from the Columbus TNNA market and have updated their New Book listing to include some of the exciting new designs and products I may have (or may not have) been telling you about: Ok .. that's that. Please please please act now to OPPOSE the Orphan's Act! This bill will not only affect your needle art, it will affect any citizen's creative work, from professional works of art to Sunday paintings to vacation photos. The issue at stake is not small. This bill is in fact a radical reversal of copyright law and the logic of ownership of personal property.

Deb *************************************** Hi Fellow Stitchers ... I'm sorry! I'm sorry!! Honest, I'm really sorry!!! Yesterday was extremely tiring ... I finished walking the last two aisles .. then started at aisle 1 and worked my way back to the end of aisle 1900. Then ... started remembering that I had wanted to do something on aisle 1500 and then forgot about something I'd seen on aisle 200 and went back to there. Worked my way back to around aisle 1100 and remembered I'd forgotten to finalize a purchase on aisle 700 ... and so it went back and forth and back and forth. Had a Counted Thread and Embroidery Group meeting at 6pm when the Market closed for the day; got out of there around 7:30pm and had to eat. So Theresa, Penny, Gail and I went off to dinner ... turned around at a couple of places where, because of the locals AND the convention peoples in town, we would have had over an hour wait, and finally got to sit down and order. Got back to the hotel at 10:15pm and, when I came to the realization that I was laying sideways on the bed fully dressed and unable to move, knew that I would NOT be able to sit at the computer for a couple of hours doing a newsletter. Not that I could even remember what I'd seen or what I'd purchased at that point either! I just crawled into bed and crashed! While Theresa is still packing her bags, here's what else I've seen and/or purchased and/or gone absolutely ga-ga over! Since I've packed my totes and all, I cannot remember names right now and cannot get to the papers, but ... will give you all that info tonight. I did find a couple of new designers ... one from New Zealand and the other from Wales. These charts will be a bit more costly then you're used to, but that's because of the US dollar against the Euro and due to import fees, but I think you're really going to like them. The ones from Wales are 4 seasonal designs .. but are they women amidst the flowers, or are they flowers surrounding women? Pretty much one color, very cool looking, eye catching and unique! Are you ready for fantastic finishing ideas?? How about a Leather CD CASE you can stitch on, insert within the lid and you're ready to go? It'll hold about 8 or more CD's .. I cannot honestly remember, but I've already got one picked out all for me! I'll go back and double check the amount it will hold for you today .. and attempt to hold that thought until I drive home from here! (yeah, right!) The Cases come in Yellow, Purple, Pink, Black, Blue & Red and have a 3" round design opening. I'm thinking one of the fun designs from SAMSARAH Pearls line will be perfect ... but there are tons of small motif/designs out there that will fit easily within that space! And .. one of these will be for my mom for Christmas this year ... found some lovely solid colored fabric covered boxes with a rectangular 3-ish-something" by 4-ish-something" sized opening on the lid .. again where you can insert your needlework, whether it's needlepoint, cross stitch, knotwork or .. I'm even thinking .. punch needlework! These boxes come filled already with fragrant soaps, blank notecards, or (the ones I ordered first), a pretty pen and message note pad (picture next to a phone!). You've got this lovely gift and all you need to do is stitch and insert and ... GIVE!!! CHARLAND DESIGNS has another needlebox that will open into a cool etui for your needlework tools .. this one is a Seaside Beach theme and you can even stitch a scissor case and emery to match it! She's added a really spooky-ly cute scissor case and emery to go along with her Halloween House this year too ... it has the words 'goblin' at the top, off to one side .. what fun to personalize as GOBLIN DEB, or .. insert your own name or that of a friend who will appreciate your humor! The teeniest tiniest sterling silver witch on a broom adorns it!! On bright green fabric, perfect for that Halloween holiday stitching, is a bellpull design ... lots of different witch shoes (with funky witch stockings peeking out of the top of the shoes) with the verse .. Put Your Party Shoes On! The ARTIST COLLECTION came up with an incredible witch and cat and other spooky figures design .. and Charland had the design made into a PEWTER BELLPULL Hardware Topper! That's what her Party Shoes design is hung from, but it can be used for just about any other Hallowed design of your choice ... should accommodate a 4" banding. This one is cool and I ordered lots!!! Our local and nationally/internationally recognized folk artist TERESA KOGUT is here with lots of new Punch Needle designs. She has Rug Hooking designs too, but I restrained myself there. A wonderful folk art saltbox house that I know just the purse bag I want to attach the completed work to ... and one I only saw the drawing of but had to have .. a lady riding a sheep and picking tall flowers! The rest are the fun-nest new Christmas with Santa designs ... one has Santa with two woolly lambs on either side of him! This is where I start to obsess .. I have "Heart Of America" cross stitch about 1/3 completed and am enjoying that stitch process so much, I don't want to put it down. I have a "The Singing Tree" knotwork in process, and even brought it with me (like I thought I'd have stitch time???!?) I also brought a felting design from Bird Braid, "Little Snow Kid", with me and have it just started .. and I've have to finish it, he's so cute! As soon as one of the NEW Teresa Kogut's arrive, I'll have to start one of them too! Too many projects .. not even enough time! Ok .. Theresa is looking at her watch so it's time to load up and get back to the Market. I'll be back tonight ... sometime... with ALL the rest of the scoop from the Summer Market Trade Show. Until then .. Stitch Happy!
***************** June 7, 2008 Hi Fellow Stitchers ... The first day of actually being able to walk and shop the Market has ended. I made it almost all the way through the show today ... from aisle 1900 to aisle 200! My tootsies are tired! Went out to eat this evening with Claudia from The Dutch Treat, Charland of Charland Designs and Lois Caron of The Caron Collection. Did some walking around town afterwards (apparently I'd not walked enough today) as there was an art show going on with street bands and galleries open late .. it was fun! But now it's time to update you on some of the stuffs I've ordered and/or saw. Just to let you know .. since this newsletter is really my Market Report page, yesterday's update will be at the end of this update! I've shown the dates so you'll know what day is which! Speaking of Claudia ... The Dutch Treat has several new table toppers and more of her perforated paper designs.
The Music Tabletopper is shown here. Claudia was working on a musical table runner while managing her booth today and that's looking really cool! Her "Reading Tabletopper" is ideal for anyone who loves to read or just appreciates good books. She'll be coming out with some bookmark variations from this design shortly. WEEKS DYE WORKS has 4 new colors ... and of course they'll be arriving! Really neat shades, named: Berry Splash - Tobacco Road - King Mackerel - Blue Heron . And Miranda is starting to play around with hand-dying wool roving for felting .. she's going to send me some to play with! I also have another company that is going to send me a bag of Buffalo roving to play with too ... have you ever FELT A BUFFALO? Come to Stitches N Things for a whole new experience! TERESA LAYMAN DESIGNS is here and .. I bought her Entire Line of new designs!!! Wait till you see them all .. these are the KNOTWORK designs that are just so much fun to do! Pumpkin Patch features a little black kitty in the patch .. Cat nap is all in pastels and kitty is curled up in the middle of the 'rug'. English Garden is another round knotwork .. Ready for a neat new GADGET?? "Pattern Tamers" will keep your pages of recipe book, pattern book or chart, or any book from turning on you. Magnetic covered with fun fabrics .. these will be on every stitcher's list!
"Wraparounds" will be all the rage too .. I'm really excited about these! Beautiful fabrics, tied with an attached bow, wraps around your scroll rods when you're not stitching to protect your project from dust, pet hair, lint, light, etc. Available in sizes to accommodate from smaller than 14" scrolls right up to 30" scrolls!! The proceeds from the sale of both the Wraparounds AND the Bar Buddies will be used to assist Arkansas CARES women with dental care and prescription costs. Arkansas CARES is a non-profit prevention and treatment program for pregnant women and mothers with substance abuse and mental health problems and their children. The program allows mothers to care for their children and learn to become better parents while receiving treatment. Both the Wraparounds and Bar Buddies are manufactured and packaged by women in treatment at Arkansas CARES. New SCISSORS from DOVO will be coming ... stainless steel blades with brilliant red or blue handles! A very streamlined look, and best of all ... those in BLUE are "True Left Hand Scissors" ... made to be held in your left hand with perfect cutting action! I've also ordered some fun "Airline Safe/Approved" folding blunt tip scissors ... very affordably priced for those of you planning trips in the near future! Flowers and Pearls Scissors are lovely scissors based on a 19th century design. They are very fine scissors with pointed blades, perfect for embroidery and Hardanger. golden handles are comprised of a floral motif with delicate pearls placed on the “eyes”. They are perfect for those who desire fine tools and pass them down as heirlooms. 3¾”; $120.00
The gals from SHEPHERDS BUSH have really done it this time .. not only new kits, but new charts and new charms! KITS: "Into The Night" has a bewitching sheep that will fly right into your heart! "Sail Away" is a beautiful sampler that CHARTS: "Scatter Freedom" ... "In A Stable" .... "She Tends" (gardening with verse) And yes, there WILL be another Stocking coming .. for a Girl! THE CAT'S WHISKERS has 2 really cute 'Krazy Kitties' scissor fob designs - "4th of July Kitty" and "Halloween Kitty" and each has an available silk packs. Janie of The Cat's Whiskers and Jo of DINKY DYES have also released the last of the seasonal tuffet Collaboration Packs .."Fabulous Fall" comes with the chart and full instructions and a skein of Limited Edition silk especially dyed for the tuffet. And ... Judith of TWISTED OAK DESIGNS has created another absolutely fantastic needlework creation called "Trixie and Treat"! It is a Cat pincushion and a Mouse scissor fob and they are just great. This design also has the available silk pack. I saw some absolutely wonderful project packs in one of the booths (actually, this company had two booth space which meant they paid a goodly amount for their floor space!). I was the only one in the booths at the time, with the exception of the saleswoman, and I remarked how much I liked her bags. She said "yes, they are nice" .. and turned and walked away from me! I tried to engage her once again in conversation about her project and she didn't respond at all. So .. even though they were really neat looking .. I will NOT be making that purchase! And of course BIRD BRAIN DESIGNS needle felting project kits will be arriving shortly in the shop ... fantastic selection this Market! A crow on a pumpkin ... a fun Sewing Bird ... If you want to 'really' express your political leanings .. there's even a Donkey and an Elephant!!! More felting projects will be coming from PAGEWOOD FARM .... Robin's kits include a 60" pre felted scarf that you embellish by needle felting a mixture of special yarn, wool, and bling fibers (she calls them "Fiber Puffs") onto. I've got a purple, two variations of harvest autumnal. browns and a blue kit coming .. as well as individual bags of Fiber Puffs for Got another news flash with a sneek peek from LIZZIE KATE today on their new Cristmas 2008 Double Flips series of designs. The stitch count for the series, including border, is 77W x 346H. This one looks like so much FUN!!! Ok ... I've got another class early tomorrow morning before the show floor opens again and I've got to take my shower tonight and try to read myself to sleep so I have a chance of getting 'some' rest. I'll be back tomorrow night with MORE from the Market Floor. Stitch Happy ... Deb *************************************** June 6, 2008 Hi Fellow Stitchers .... Here I am at Market! I had this feeling coming into this Trade Show, based on industry rumors I'd been hearing, and unfortunately, I was right. The vast majority of my designers will be at the upcoming (1st time held ever!) Market in St. Charles, MO in mid-September. However, I have 3 whole days to walk the floor, stopping at every counted thread designer and distributor and manufacturer that 'is' here, and smoozing with my homies. What fun! No pressure to get through this show on a strict deadline .. no stress over how much money can I spend, or rather .. how much do I have "left" to spend .. just meandering from booth to booth in search of treasure! Checking out every single needleart/fiber company that is here in search of fun new toys and storage solutions and wool roving for felting and any other wonderments I may come across! Theresa from Homestead Needlearts in Grand Blanc and I drove down together and are 'roomies' this weekend. Last night we had dinner with Patti Conner from Samsarah Design Studio and her daughter. Lunch today was with Anne from Gloriana Threads. And we hooked up with Gail (Accents In Stitches) and Penny (Ewe Count) and had drinks and dinner tonight after the Sample It, Fashion Show and Galleria presentation. Thursday and today were spent in classes ... 3 so far.
